Case Study
Avalon Court, Brighton - MDU
Name: Avalon court, Brighton
Units: 63 THP
Delivery type: EZ Bend cabling above ceilings
Connection points: 5 UFS boxes
Network points: 1 underground Fibre Agg node
All cabling works were delivered using an EZ Bend fibre solution installed above the suspended ceilings within the apartment blocks. The project covered 63 units across five separate buildings.
Each apartment was fitted with its own EZ Bend cable, routed from the relevant Fibre Distribution Points (FDPs). Where no metal tray was available for cable tying, fire-rated clips were used to secure the cabling to the walls. All penetration points were sealed using Hilti-approved firestopping sealant to maintain building compartmentation and ensure full compliance with fire safety regulations. A Point of Entry (POE) box was installed above the ceiling near each resident’s front door, creating an accessible connection point for future fibre activation. Existing riser cupboards were used to route the cabling between upper and lower floors, maintaining an efficient and tidy deployment throughout the site.
The site is served by five separate FDPs, each connected to an underground fibre aggregation node in the street. Two fibres from the node feed into two 32-way splitters, which are distributed across the FDPs to enable individual unit connections. Testing of the POE locations was conducted using calibrated power meters to confirm that all fibre light levels were within the correct range for future customer activation.
As a result, 63 residents now have access to ultra-fast fibre optic broadband delivered through Openreach’s Fibre to the Home (FTTH) network, ensuring reliable, high-speed connectivity across the site.
